Language support in water tracker apps for iPhone, including Arabic, Hindi and Tamil

If your iPhone is set to Arabic, Hindi, Tamil, Hebrew, Persian or Urdu, choosing a water tracker is harder than it should be. Many apps are English-first, and a translated App Store page does not always mean a translated app. This guide shows what a few popular apps list, where each falls short, and how to check any app yourself in under a minute.

Disclosure: I make Hydrabit. Language lists for the other apps come from their App Store listings and a listing snapshot, linked in the sources at the end. Where I could not confirm an app's languages, I say so instead of guessing.

Short answer: of the apps whose language lists I could confirm, only Hydrabit lists Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu, Hindi and Tamil together, with right-to-left layout. Waterllama covers Hindi but, in the listing snapshot I found, not the others. Check WaterMinder and Plant Nanny on their own listings.

How to check an app's languages before you download

  1. Open the App Store page and scroll to the Information section. Tap Languages to see the full list.
  2. Look for your language by name, not just a language family. Hindi in the list does not mean Tamil or Urdu are there.
  3. Check how it was translated. Some developers say so on the page. One app below states that all of its translations are machine translations.
  4. For right-to-left languages, open the app and check that the layout mirrors, that charts and progress bars read in the right direction, and that numbers look right.
  5. Test before you pay. Log a drink and open the settings and reminders in your language. If something is half-translated, you will see it quickly.

What each app lists

  • Hydrabit: 27 languages, per its App Store listing: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian Bokmål, Persian, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese. The app also supports right-to-left layout.
  • Waterllama: a snapshot of its listing dated September 2024 shows 21 languages, including Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and several European languages. That snapshot does not show Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu or Tamil. The current listing may differ, so check it.
  • Drink Water Reminder + Tracker (Loopbots Technology): its listing names 12 languages including Arabic, and says all supported languages are machine translations. It also says the developer collects no data.
  • Water Reminder - Daily Drink (Berkay Ugur): its listing names seven languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Russian, French and Turkish. It does not include Arabic, Hindi or Tamil.
  • WaterMinder and Plant Nanny: both WaterMinder and Plant Nanny have a Languages section on their listings, but I could not confirm the contents from the pages I could read, so I am not going to guess.

Where Hydrabit falls short on language

Listing a language is not the same as being perfect in it, so here is what you should know before you rely on it.

  • Siri phrases are English only for now, even though the app itself is translated.
  • Challenge and tip text is in English at the moment.
  • Translation quality is something to judge yourself. If a phrase reads unnaturally, tell me at hello@hydrabit.app and I will fix it.
  • It is new. Hydrabit first launched on 11 September 2026, so it has far fewer ratings than long-established apps.
  • Apple only and no Dark Mode. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, not Android.

On the plus side, logging, history, reminders, widgets, the Apple Watch app and Siri are free from version 1.3, rolling out on 29 October 2026. Hydrabit Essential, at $2.99 a year with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers or $9.99 once, adds the other organs, guided challenges and editing logged drinks. Prices vary by country. It has no account, no ads and no tracking.

Which should you pick?

  • You use Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu or Tamil: start with Hydrabit, then compare against any app whose listing names your language.
  • You use Hindi and want a playful design with many drink types: Waterllama lists Hindi.
  • You only need Arabic and want a very basic app: the Loopbots app lists it, but note that it states its translations are machine-made.
  • You use Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian or Turkish: almost every app covers these, so choose on features and price instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

The bottom line

The App Store's Languages list is the fastest honest test of whether an app will work for you, and it takes about ten seconds. If your language is one that most water trackers skip, Hydrabit is built for you. It is also the newest app here, so try it for a few days and judge the translation yourself.

Want to try it? Get Hydrabit on the App Store. For help setting a daily goal, see how many ounces of water you should drink a day. Hydration apps give general wellness information, not medical advice.
